Technical Sales and Development Manager
Our client is a new generation of plant scientists, transforming the hemp and cannabis industries with unparalleled data, technology, and expertise. They are developing their own proprietary varieties of both hemp and cannabis strains and are seeking a high-level sales and market development person to take on placing strategic trials, cultivating relationships and assisting in setting up the best distributors for sales. Position Summary - Technical Sales and Development Manager
The Technical Sales and Development manager will be responsible for technical sales activities and product development in the testing and launching phase of new product introductions within their assigned territory to generate sales growth. This position will require a complete understanding and wide application of cannabis crop protection systems, experimental cultivar trial evaluation principles, and supporting new product introductions in support of sales. The position holder will develop and implement new market / business development plans, which will meet business goals of providing the best varieties possible for customers, as well as expanding customer base in the sales area. They will work on the launching and demonstration of new product introductions with an effective trialing program in order to position products that will meet the needs of the target market. The position will work as part of a highly communicative network comprising research, marketing and sales representative that will assure speed to market based upon data driven decisions. Responsibilities - Technical Sales and Development Manager
Responsible for all trialing aspects across a given geographic area of pre-commercial cannabis products. To provide objective data and interpretation of trial and experimental cultivar results to support the advancement of materials into the commercial pipeline. The position may also be asked to work directly with the breeding team to establish and evaluate breeding trials and will be part of the RD breeding team
Generate and share the relevant crop reports in an accurate and timely manner through the collection of useful trialing data geared towards marketing, sales, and breeder support and to rigorously support those cultivars in the advancement process that you believe to have the highest potential for commercial success
Plan and deliver timely seed samples of new commercial varieties per the defined grower sampling trial plan
Provide a high level of service and product information to customers, demonstrate a wide understanding and expertise in the field, providing specific variety recommendations to customers
Serve as technical production expert providing solutions when handling customer complaints relating to field performance of seed products, keeping sales manager informed
Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the product line, develop the required product performance trial data through trials to determine features, attributes and benefits (FAQs) of new products. Work closely with marketing and sales as the technical resource in development of marketing materials and programs
Participate in trade shows, field days, and customer events, along with related activities in a professional manner
In collaboration with the sales team, identify key/influential cooperators, develop strong relationships with commercial growers, and engage the crop cultivar choice decision makers in order to better understand the market
Continued learning of agronomic knowledge, production systems, business development, and industry changes Qualifications - Technical Sales and Development Manager
Requires minimum of a B.S.(Masters preferred) degree in Agronomy, Horticulture or a related field
Expertise in data management, experimental design, and statistical analysis
5+ years of experience in either agronomic or horticultural crops and industry required with crop management technical skills, trialing experience, and working with growers
Experience with cannabis crop production and cropping methods desirable, but strong vegetable or horticulture experience would be considered
General knowledge of standard sales techniques
Ability to travel on a regular basis (up to 50%) throughout the assigned territory, and to company/industry meetings as required
Must possess strong written and oral communication skills
Ability to develop and maintain productive working relationships with associates, dealers, grower customers and related industry personnel
