Heavy Equipment Mechanic ~ gpac ~ , Minnesota, USA

A Heavy Equipment Mechanic performs skilled tasks in the mechanical repair and maintenance of diesel and gasoline heavy trucks, earthmoving, and related construction equipment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Including but not limited to:
* A Heavy Equipment Mechanic is primarily responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of heavy equipment.
* Inspect, repair and adjust diesel power units, hydraulic systems, injection valves and associated systems.
* Inspect, adjust and repair gasoline and diesel tractors, and hydraulic, electric and cable operated systems and attachments.
* Perform routine maintenance on fleet vehicles including install/replace or adjust filters, belts, brake components, change fluids and tires or similar items to necessary to maintain equipment.
* Observe or monitor equipment/vehicle operation to determine compliance with prescribed operating or safety standards and diagnose defects.
* Perform incidental welding operations on equipment.
* Completing forms to record or report information in standard format as specified by the form (repair orders, inspections, etc)
* Communicates any unsafe conditions or accidents/injuries in a timely manner to the supervisor in order to facilitate prompt correction or reporting.

Education and/or Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED). 2 years of experience working with construction-related equipment, cranes , mining, earthmovers a plus.
Communication Skills:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, comprehend short written or verbal correspondence or memos, interpret/communicate repair manual/procedure content.
Other skills and abilities:
Excellent organizational and time management skills, the ability to pay close attention to detail, and the ability to perform while multitasking.
Ability to read, interpret and communicate equipment manufacturer and repair documents, operating instructions, specification sheets;
Ability to learn and utilize diagnostic equipment;
Ability to effectively understand and communicate verbally with others in person and on the telephone;
Ability to perform duties with moderate direct supervision;
Ability to work effectively with multiple team members.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
* Must be able to remain in a standing position for extended periods of time.
* While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, feel objects, tools, or controls: reach with hands and arms: operate vehicle controls with hands, arms, legs, feet; and talk or hear.
* The employee is occasionally required to climb in and out of truck/equipment cabs, onto truck beds, and onto trailers. May have to occasionally kneel or crouch.
* The employee must regularly lift, carry and /or move up to 25 lbs; occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
* All lifting above 50 lbs. shall be done with assistance from other employees or mechanical lifting devices that are available to assist employees.
* Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

The Service Manager provides leadership and assumes accountability for the people they manage and the performance of their service operations. Responsible for financial and operational results for the department, adhering to company values and policies, and promoting the satisfaction of all stakeholders including employees and customers.
Requirements:
* Minimum 5 years of well-rounded experience in a service department, preferably in an agricultural dealership.
* Appropriate vocational education required; degree and certifications preferred.
* Previous people management experience highly preferred
* Ability to professionally lead, develop, and motivate others
* Solid diagnostic and problem-solving skills required
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills with customers and employees required.
* Expertise with computer systems, including MS office and internet-based applications
* Ability to work extended hours during the week and on weekends
* Ability to travel to company meetings and training events as needed
* Acceptable Motor Vehicle status, with current driver"s license, and ability to operate motor vehicles and Heavy Equipment
Job Responsibilities (ranked in significance):
* Company Values: Ensures all company values are adhered to and promoted. This would include leading by example and participation in employee recognition programs.
* Financial Objectives: Achieves the financial objectives for the service department, including revenue, margin, expense, and operating profit. Develops an annual financial plan in concert with the Store Manager. Ensures each individual in his department has goals such as efficiency, that relate to the overall financial goals of the department.
* Operational Objectives: Achieves or exceeds all assigned operational objectives for the department, including work in process, warranty, training, and efficiency objectives. Adheres to all internal and manufacturer requirements, procedures and timelines. Organizes job scheduling for the most efficient performance of the department. Ensure all paperwork is completed in a timely and accurate manner. Flat rates jobs, opens and completes work orders as required. Ensures all customers are called before invoices are sent.
* Employee Recruitment: Accountable for recruiting new personnel for the service department, leveraging local candidates, job fairs, internet sites, and technical schools. Follows defined recruiting processes to ensure candidate competency and legal requirements
* Employee Performance and Development: Responsible for effectively managing and motivating all service personnel. Ensures all employees have an individual performance / developmental plan including efficiency targets and good work habits; conduct professional formal annual evaluation each year for all employees; take corrective action as needed in conjunction with Store Management and HR. Ensures all employees are compliant with required vendor training.
