CANDIDATE SELECTED MUST PASS A PRE-EMPLOYMENT PHYSICAL (at District's expense).

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
  • Salary Range: $7,798-$9,479 per month (2018/19 Management Salary Schedule); maximum salary placement of $8,597is based on assessment of previous experience as documented in application materials. An additional 2% compensation will be added to the base salary for an earned doctorate degree.

  • Leave/Holiday Time: Management employees earn 1 day of sick leave and 1.8333 days of vacation for each month worked. They are also entitled to holidays recognized by the District (14 holidays/year).

SCOPE OF POSITION: Under the direction of the Dean, Agriculture/Natural Resources & Culinary Arts, plan, organize and direct day-to-day operations at Shone Farm; assume responsibility for overall performance, maintenance and safety of Shone Farm property, equipment and staff; implement the academic priorities of the Agriculture/Natural Resources (AG/NR) faculty and balance the fiscal mandate to maintain Shone Farm as a self-supporting economic unit; train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff.
FARM/DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION:Shone Farm, 365 acres of farmlands, pasture, vineyards, and riparian forest in the Russian River Valley, serves the department as an outdoor learning lab and includes a winery and equine facility. In addition to full-time instructors in each discipline, the department has a large pool of adjunct faculty who are experts in their respective fields. The farm is located about 12 miles from the Santa Rosa Campus, between the towns of Forestville and Windsor, in the heart of the Russian River Valley AVA (American Viticulture Area).
Examples of Duties:
Examples of key duties are interpreted as being descriptive and not restrictive in nature. Incumbents routinely perform approximately 80% of the duties below.
  1. Employ collaborative decision-making processes to ensure that Shone Farm operations align with and support academic programs, commercial operations and student on-farm work and training opportunities.
  2. Work cooperatively with the Agriculture/Natural Resources Department faculty, staff, and administration in the development, revision, and implementation of both short-term and long-term management plans for the academic units at Shone Farm.
  3. Provide horticultural, agronomic, forest, livestock, and pasture management expertise to ensure safe and high-quality operations; coordinate with faculty and staff to ensure that grounds and equipment meet instructional and commercial needs and are aligned with academic learning outcomes.
  4. Train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff including student employees and student residents; interview and select employees and recommend transfers, reassignment, termination and disciplin
