- Minimum 5+ years experience with organic landscape methods, preferably in private/estate gardens, botanic gardens, or other highly diverse plantings.
- Capable of working under pressure and independently as necessary as well as handling a diverse range of responsibilities
- Be able to life and carry a minimum of 50 pounds, while working in variety of weather conditions, including hot summers and windy autumns.
- Supervisory Experience with effective Leadership skills and training to the team.
- Design, select and install new plantings around the farm while ensuring that plants used in the landscape are drought tolerant and not poisonous or invasive to the area.
- Irrigation Experience as as well as maintenance of drip systems, micro sprayers, and turf sprinkler systems.
- Ability to work as a team member maintaining positive work relations of staff & volunteers
- Collaborate with Habitat Restoration Team on invasive species removal: mustard, tumbleweed, castor bean, arundo, tree tobacco, etc.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Hansen Agri Placement is in search of a full-time Horticulturist to work as a Team LEAD for the Estate and Landscape team. The applicant will oversee a small team of landscape maintenance staff working in various planted areas of the farm. These areas include intricate home landscapes, hedgerows, windbreaks, roadside pollinator gardens, fence lines, outbuildings and other areas planted not only for aesthetics, but for biological diversity and the provision of bee forage. Knowledge of California natives and other drought-adapted plants of the Mediterranean climate is important, as well as knowledge of best management practices and proper horticultural techniques. Our ideal candidate is passionate about gardening and the role plants play in the beautification and diversification of life on an organic farm, has experience managing a landscape team, and is familiar with the Southern California growing climate. Will need hire as needed and do training of field crew for proper planting, pruning, irrigation installation, and maintenance procedures as well as farm safety. Will need the ability to operate weed-wackers, hedge trimmers, mowers, blowers, vehicles and other farm equipment properly. You will need ability to balance several projects at the same time, while leading a team of employees and maintaining clear communication with other teams on the farm. For safety purposes, they ask that you must have the ability to swim. Must be legally authorized to work in the USA and pass a background check as it will be taken upon hiring.
