Lead Refrigeration Operator ~ De Lacy Executive Recruitment North America ~ Delano, California, USA

Reporting directly to the General Manager of Cold Storage, the Lead Refrigeration Operator monitors, maintains, and operates an ammonia refrigeration system. This role is responsible for application of SO2 fumigation to incoming fruit as well as fruit previously placed in the cold storage facility. Responsibilities:

• Maintain process safety and regulatory compliance (CUPA, USEPA, OSHA, IIAR)
• Initiate emergency response (OSHA, CUPA, PECO, AAE, etc…)
• Coordinate contracted work (CalCA, PECO, AAE, etc.…)
• Act as purchasing agent for parts, equipment, water treatment chemicals, fumigation product, large repairs, and facility additions.
• Job planning and assessments - set, adjust, and assign recommendations, supervise and evaluate operators' work
• Act as training facilitator for all facility training, recruiting 3rd party outside training for fire safety, APR testing, and hazardous work operations and emergency response, and provide all employees with general NH3 and SO2 awareness training.
• Retain license and permits (Environmental Health, San Joaquin Air Pollution, Chemical Terrorism Vulnerability, H2o, Fumigation, etc.)
• Oversee the daily monitoring and safe operations of refrigeration equipment (compressor, condensers, evaporators, accumulators).
• Serve 24 hours on call for alarm answering.
• Troubleshoot equipment failure stemming from computer logic, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, or electrical issues.
• Operate equipment to include forklift, scissor lift, boom lift, backhoe, and tractor.
• Maintain proper documentation of mechanical integrity work (service, repairs, maintenance, calibrators, etc.)
• Carry out non-refrigeration facility maintenance
• Ensure cooling operations and fumigation processes are being completed and documented appropriately.

Desired Profile:

• High School diploma or equivalent
• 3+ years of industrial refrigeration experience with proper training in NH3 refrigeration processes, working in confined spaces, fire safety, use of air purifying respirator, and HazWOpER
• Industrial refrigeration certificate
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
